Dark Origins:
The Macabre history of everyday things
(2026)
Pre-Production
Dark Origins: The Macabre History of Everyday Things is an evergreen, returnable docu-series that peels back the surface of everyday life to reveal unsettling histories hidden below.
Each episode exposes the little-known tragedy, superstition, death or human error that lead to the creation of some of our most common modern items, phrases, and places. From a death mask created for a drowning victim that became the face of modern CPR dolls to the original blacksmith's effort to create Notre Dame's locks coining the phrase "The Devil is in the details," the stories in the show balance folklore with fact through the use of storytelling, archival materials, expert interviews and on-the-ground exploration that leave the viewer with a new perspective on the world.
It's not a horror show; it’s a cultural anthropological look at how the past shapes our present in surprising and often resilient ways.
